Shiva the Destroyer by avix Shiva the Destroyer by avix
The Holy Trinity of Hindu mythology consists of Brahma the Creator, Vishnu the Keeper, and Shiva the Destroyer. I have tried to put a slight twist on the familiar elements in depicting Shiva: he has long hair (usually tied up, but I think flowing hair looks better), ash rubbed all over his body (hence the grey skin), a garland of snakes (reduced to one here), the crescent moon on his head (here turned into a headgear), and a loincloth of tiger or leopard skin. The surroundings correspond with his abode in Kailash, one of the most remote regions of the Himalayas.

Medium: Gouache on paper.

well, this one is not necessity to be a failure....its only an opinion(of a semi-purist bastard :D )

anatomical non-mistakes will cover up for a lot of misc. mistakes as you should be knowing definitely.....so to practice drawing without reference would be to get rid of that stiffness in the pose. painting can take second seat compared to drawing interms of priority....although your painting is certainly good(Im no expert on this).....

sure....always glad to opine for the sake of perfection.

I know: anatomical drawing without reference can be a bloody mess. :(

strong disagreements on this, man......shiva either looks calm or 'rage explosion' like....this menacing looks is just not suiting his described qualities. I think that grass snake is hardly a substitute for a cobra....hair looks like a damned wig....also shiva has black hair and long black hair looks cooler if thats the effect you were looking for......best not to go further, too many critiques.....

Of course you're right; but failures are, as they say, the pillars of success.

Do keep commenting my works; they are insightful and honest (your comments, that is). :)

I get the distinct impression that he's about to go fight Spiderman. I dont know why.

Oh, now I know why. You're painterly style would probably translate nicely into a comic style. Which, while not radicaly different, is a cash cow if you wanna hock paintings of Wolverine to rich american geeks. Jeeze, They would really eat this up. Do you sell any of your paintings?

I like the muscle structure you got there! Nice simple brush strokes for the legs, especialy. No black holes in the knees.:P

Now go have Shiva fight an ice monster of some kind. Or maybe the Jesus. I dont know how well these godly/son of godly types get along. Either way, it's a fun way to stir up controversy. JUST DONT DRAW MOHAMMED KAY! I doubt you like firebombs in the face.

This must be Shiva in the Rudra form, for Shiva can be very sweet and gentle as well in the Shambo form. Nice try.

Eh, but Shiva will NEVER fight with Jesus. Shiva and Jesus in fact will have a nice talk together while observing the world. They're cosmic forces of peace. Shiva is the God of Destruction, yes, but He's also the Source of all happiness. He destroys ignorance, fear, death, attachment, and all negative things, and He brings you towards Anand, the ultimate state of happiness.

I like this one, but next time I hope you can tap to the benign form of Shiva. He's there too, in your heart.

Shiva and Jesus will be kickin' it back with Sid who rambles on about suffering and escaping both destruction and creation, but they all have a good drink in their hand and at the end of the night just say fuckit, we're all different and get ours in the end.
